Open house is Sunday for Ottawa PADS
OTTAWA — An open house will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ottawa PADS Shelter, 1120 Canal St., Ottawa, to allow the public to see the expansion of the shelter to house three bedrooms and a playroom to accommodate families using the shelter program.
These rooms will allow 20 additional beds to increase the total to 50 beds at the shelter.
Since Sept. 1, 2013, the shelter program has provided shelter, meals, security and case management to 15 families who had 19 children who were requesting shelter.
“This has been a growing need in our society, and we are willing to try to meet the need,” said Carol Alcorn, executive director. “There are many families with children who are moving around our communities staying where they can for short periods of time. We hope that they will consider the shelter as a place to go to help. We work with local resources to help them solve the issues that are causing the homelessness. These rooms will allow the family to stay within the shelter program as a family unit at night, so that parents are in the same room as all the children. This will promote the proper supervision, security, being and enhance the family moving to the solution as a unit.”
