Girls regional update

The Hall Lady Devils and St. Bede Lady Bruins moved on in Class 2A regional play at the Academy Monday, both pushed in opening night games.

Hall slipped past Bureau Valley 41-36, led by sisters Ellie (12) and Becca (10) Herrman. Nicole Bornsheuer had 11 for the Storm.

St. Bede took a 12-3 first-quarter lead on Princeton, but the Tigresses fought back outscoring the Lady Bruins 10-9 in the second quarter and closing within four points in the third quarter. Four three-pointers between Raley Mauck (3) and Laura Sickley (1) in the third quarter proved to be the difference in the game. Lexie Miranda sealed it with 6 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Mauck finished with a game-high 18 points, Sickley added 10. Senior Zoe Mead had 17 points with 18 rebounds for the Tigresses, who had lost three times to the Lady Bruins by big margins coming into the game.

In Tuesday's semifinals, the Lady Devils will face No. 1 seed Prophetstown at 6 p.m. while the Lady Bruins square off vs. No. 2 Riverdale at 8 p.m.
