Roger Peterson

PERU — Roger E. Peterson, 94, of Peru passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

He was born March 13, 1919, in Henry to Edward and Cora Mae (Yarrington) Peterson. He married Veronica A. “Vernie” Rafalski on Feb. 14, 1947, at St. Columba Rectory in Ottawa.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a life-time member of the LaSalle VFW, Peru Eagles Club, Mendota Elks and the Earlville Country Club. He was employed at Westclox in Peru for 41 years as a machinist. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Peru. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and was an expert ballroom dancer.

Survivors include his daughters, Sandy Holloway, Barbara (Scott) Harl and JoAnn (Dennis) Main, all of Peru; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Glenna Walters of Oglesby.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernie on Sept. 3, 2009.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru with the Rev. Dale Pederson, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Peru, officiating. Burial will follow in the Peru City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Holloway, Erik Main, Heidi Main, Jay Yarrington, Jerry Yarrington and John Walters.
