Five area churches took part in a month-long Diaper Derby and raised more than $17,000 worth of diapers and wipes combined. The churches will be distributing the collection to Freedom House, Bureau County Food Pantry, Early Bright Beginnings and Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS). The churches were all interested in putting together a fundraiser to help collect items for the needy that are not covered by food stamps. The group is looking for more churches to participate in future fundraisers. The hope is to hold additional drives in the future to collect necessity items such as soap, toothpaste and laundry soap. Pictured is Pastor Brenda Lovick of Trinity Evangelical in Manlius; Lovick’s daughter, Callie Gill; Pastor Kim Lee-Brown of St. John Lutheran Church; Pastor George Woosnam of First United Methodist Church; and Pastor Dwight Bailey of First Christian Church. Absent from the photo is Pastor Sarah Gladstone of Hampshire Colony Church.
