PERU — Lindsay Shepard of Illinois Retina Institute in Peru recently earned the distinction by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) of Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.

Achieving the JCAHPO credential demonstrates to patients with eye disease that Shepard possesses distinct and specialized knowledge promoting quality of care for ophthalmic patients.

Shepard has worked at Illinois Retina Institute for three years and has been in the field of ophthalmology for 13 years. She works with patients experiencing retina-related eye problems performing digital retinal testing and assisting Dr. Kamal Kishore and Dr. Anthony Ekong during patient care.

Illinois Retina Institute, a specialty eye practice dedicated to treating retina conditions such as macular degeneration, now has five certified ophthalmic assistants.

Shepard lives in Streator with her fiancé, Cory, and two children.
