Three Three Rivers Conference teams advanced to sectional finals with semifinal wins Tuesday

The Three Rivers Conference North’s Lady Clippers advance to Thursday’s sectional finals vs. Lanark Eastland, a 42-32 winner over Galena.

At Minonk (2A): Three Rivers South champ Sherrard topped Peoria Christian 52-36. Riley Strangard led Sherrard with 15 points, Shelby Calderone had 13 points and Chelsey Crippen added 11.

The Tigers (28-2) will meet El Paso-Gridley, a 55-50 winner over Carthage Illini West, in Thursday’s sectional finals. EPG, the defending sectional champion, placed third at state a year ago.

Sherrard has reached the sectional finals for the fourth straight year, but has not won sectional since 1990.

At Aurora (2A): Three Rivers North champ Prophetstown used its strike force to slip past Oregon 62-57 in sectional semifinal play Tuesday. Heather Strike scored a team-high 17 points including two free throws with 3 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and knocked down a key 3-pointer in OT.

The Prophets (28-2), who won last week’s St. Bede Regional, will face defending sectional champ Byron, a 62-36 winner over host Aurora Christian, in Thursday’s sectional finals.
