BUREAU — Ruth I. Steenrod, formerly of Bureau, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.
Born March 10, 1922, to Charles G. and Norah L. (Switzer) Steenrod, she graduated from Bureau Grade and Princeton High School. She was a lifetime member of the Bureau Congregational Church and was active as church pianist. She first worked for Dr. Poppens, a physician and surgeon, then for Farm Bureau Insurance, and retired from Jostens Jewelry Co. after working there many years. An avid reader and collector of World War II memorabilia, she donated several scrapbooks about the war and local people involved to the Princeton Public Library.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Paul Steenrod; three sisters; and three brothers died in infancy or childhood.
She is survived by a nephew, Charles (Barbara) Steenrod of Roanoke; a niece, Sheila (Russ) Aikin, Lansing, Mich.; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kevin (Teresa) Roeschley, Kerri Roeschley, Ken Steenrod, Debbie (Mel) Nielsen and Kim (Scott) Edwards; 14 great-great nieces and great-great-nephews; and one great-great-great-niece.
Arrangements are being handled by Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton. A memorial service will be announced for later this spring.
