There were nine girls who hung together at Bureau Valley High School, spending time together doing what teenage girls do best — Shannon and Valerie Reuter, Janelle Norden, Lacey DeVenney, Sam Haney, Kalie Rumbold, Julia Edlefson, Bailey Russell and Cora Peters.
As we all know, we lost one of the nine recently, Cora Peters, who passed away much too soon Dec. 30. She was just 18.
Her eight best friends are teaming up to put together the inaugural Pack the Place Purple Night at the Storm Cellar when the Bureau Valley boys basketball team hosts Fulton.
Both teams will be wearing the Cora’s Crew shirt during warmups and a tad bit of purple during the game.
The BV dance team is dedicating a dance to Cora to the song Timber, which was her favorite song this winter.
There will be a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, the Cora’s Crew bracelets will be available, and, as always, donations are welcome.
“Cora didn’t want her story to end, so we are making sure that it continues on for everyone to be inspired by,” Russell said. “We really want to get the game out there in hopes that it is successful, and people will be waiting impatiently for the second annual Pack the Place Purple!
I have got to know some of these young ladies through basketball and helping to share Cora’s story. I commend them all for their love and devotion to their dear friend, Cora. Girls, I can tell you for sure, knowing Cora’s heart and faith, she will be smiling down from heaven, and no doubt, dancing along with you Friday.
Be sure to get out Friday and support a good cause.
