Lady Trojans win 3A title

The Mendota Lady Trojans proved to be double trouble for Sterling in Friday's Class 3A regional championship at Mendota.

Ally Bromoschenkel scored 12 points for Mendota and her twin Abby added 10 to lead the Lady Trojans to a 39-18 win over Sterling. It is Mendota's first regional title since 2002.

The Lady Trojans advance to the Chillicothe Sectional to face Peoria Notre Dame at 8 p.m. Monday. The Irish were 71-66 winners over crosstown rival Richwoods. Notre Dame is coached by veteran coach Ron Carruthers, formerly of Dunlap.

Boys basketball

The Bureau Valley Storm fell to the Fulton Steamers at the Storm Cellar Friday night 77-59. Still with the loss, the Storm clinched second place in the Three Rivers North division behind Newman, being the only team to beat the Comets in league play.

In the South side of the Three Rivers, Rockridge rocked St. Bede 84-33 in Edgington. The No. 1 ranked Rockets finished the regular season undefeated.

Around the area, Geneseo beat L-P 53-46 , Ottawa topped Dixon 65- 53, Mendota downed Byron 73-57 , and Putnam County defeated Stark County 60-45.
