The original idea of the American Revolution was to raise the level of education for all citizens to a better life without being subjected to British rule. Also make them responsive to the ideas and sentiments of the constitution along with the freedom to worship as they please. All Americans should understand the workings of a democracy and even comprehend the virtues and limitations of capitalism.
But we have failed. Our educational system has not educated, and we have been unresponsive to the laws and regulations that govern our country. The people in our country are losing influence in both houses of Congress.
Congress has the lowest approval rating that has ever been noted. Because of this, many in the country are crying for term limits. One reason is that those in Congress, after all these years, failed to inform the voters they had the ability to have inside trading while voting to send people to jail for misuse of insider trading.
All the members of Congress were eligible for insider trading which refers to anyone who has knowledge of facts not available to the general public. An insider is liable for insider stock trading who fails to disclose material non-public information, before trading on it and thus makes secret profits. We, however, never knew that “our” congressmen had insider trading ability.
The impression is that members of Congress when elected are virtually poor as church mice and end up millionaires. Voters feel this is uncalled for, and must be stopped. The cry is — throw the bums out, however some members are decent politicians. Where do we draw the line — term limits, or politics as usual?
