Community Notes

Lenten meditation and luncheon

PRINCETON — Hampshire Colony Congregational Church will host a Lenten noontime musical meditation and luncheon on Wednesday, beginning at 12:10 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The musical performance will be by Ron McCutchan and the lunch will be spaghetti. A free-will offering will be accepted.

St. Matthew Lenten service

PRINCETON — St. Matthew Lutheran Church will host Pastor Kris Zierke from Our Savior’s Lutheran in Seneca on Wednesday. Zierke will discuss change of season. There will be a soup supper at 6 p.m. followed by the service at 7 p.m.

Book fair, bake sale

PRINCETON — The Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor a book fair from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. A bake sale will also be held from 7 a.m. to noon Friday. Both events will be held in the Medical Office Building lobby at Perry. Each year the Perry Auxiliary hosts a variety of events to raise money to purchase equipment for the hospital. In addition to various fundraisers, the Auxiliary operates the gift shop located in the hospital’s main lobby.

Funding available

PRINCETON — Bureau County United Way is now accepting applications for 2015 funding. Applicants must be a 501c3 not-for-profit organization. Applications are available through the Bureau County United Way office by calling 815-872-0821. Applications must reach the Bureau County United Way on or before May 5.

Trivia night

MENDOTA — Safe House Animal Rescue League will host a trivia night Saturday at the Mendota Moose Lodge, 211 E. 12th St. in Mendota. Doors open at 6 p.m. for registration and playing begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Teams can have up to 10 players. There is a cash bar. There will be prizes for top teams, 50/50 and raffles. To pre-register, or for more information, call 815-407-SAFE (7233). All proceeds will benefit Safe House Animal Rescue League.


LADD — The Ohio Public Library’s annual fundraiser will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Rip’s in Ladd. Tickets are $7 and available at the library or from any library board member. There will be a 50/50 drawing and a raffle.

Breakfast planned

BUDA — The Buda Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat pancake and biscuit and gravy breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Buda Community Hall. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for ages 5-12 and free for ages 4 and under.

Chicken dinner fundraiser

MALDEN — Humpty Dumpty Preschool in Malden will host its third annual chicken dinner and raffle from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at JTs Bar and Grill in Cherry. Ticks are $8 and include 1/4 of chicken or chicken strops, fires and a dessert. Tickets can be purchased at the door and carryouts are available. There will be raffles and a 50/50 drawing. All tips will be donated to the preschool.

Cooking class

PRINCETON — A special foods class will be presented at 6:30 p.m. April 1 at the First United Methodist Church in Princeton. The Bureau County Home and Community Education Association is sponsoring the event. Chef Monika Sudakov of The Chestnut Inn, Sheffield, will present the program. There is no charge for attending. Advanced notice is preferred. Call Vivienne Lutes at 815-643-2201 by March 31 to notify her of attendance.

Quilters Guild meeting

PRINCETON — The Covered Bridge Quilters Guild will meet at 7 p.m. April 4 at Christ Community Church, 1719 Euclid Ave. in Princeton. The program, given by Lisa Binkley, will be “Adding Sparkle and Texture to Quilts.” Guests are welcome to attend for a fee of $5. A workshop will be at 4 p.m. April 5 at the church. Open house

OHIO — The Ohio Fire Department will host an open house from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 5 for all residents served by the Ohio Fire Protection District. Coffee, soda and snacks will be served and there will be a 50/50 drawing.

Cheerleading tryouts

PERU — St. Bede Academy will hold cheerleading tryouts at 6 p.m. April 6. Workshops will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. April 4 and April 5 in the third floor Chapel.

Fundraiser planned

LADD — The Ladd After School Program will hold a chicken dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 7 at Rip’s in Ladd. This will be for both dine in and carry out. There will also be a bake sale, 50/50 and raffles. Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door, from any Ladd After School parent or by calling the 815-228-1967.

Spaghetti dinner

LASALLE — Lighted Way and Uptown Grill are co-sponsoring the annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 8 p.m. April 7 at Uptown Grill in LaSalle. To purchase tickets, call the school at 815-224-1345 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday or purchase them at the door. The cost is $8. Carry-ous will be available.

Trivia Night

LAMOILLE — The LaMoille and Ohio Athletic Boosters will host a Trivia Night April 12 at the LaMoille Lions Club, 308 Howard St. in LaMoille. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and trivia will begin at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $100 per team, with six to 10 people on each team. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. PRINCETON — Just for Kix has announced registration for the 2014-15 season will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 12 at the Princeton Arts Academy, home of the Just For Kix program. Torri Price is the director for the program.
