Tigers knocked out

The season drew to a close for the Princeton Tigers, who fell 59-56 to the Prophetstown Prophets in 2A regional play at Princeton Tuesday night.

Down by 10 points (50-40), the Tigers rallied behind senior J.J. Vaccaro, who had 12 of his team-high 20 points in the fourth quarter. He had a final shot for a potential game-tying 3-pointer as time ran out.

Garrett Duffin added 18 points. Prophetstown's Ethan Howard led all scorers with 23 points.

PHS (5-22) held a 30-25 halftime lead, but was outscored 19-5 in the third quarter, falling behind 49-40.

The Prophets (15-13) will face top-seeded Seneca (22-5) in Wednesday's first regional semifinal at 6 p.m. The nightcap pits No. 2 Hall (17-11) vs. No. 3 Bureau Valley (19-11).
