Ladd School Board

LADD —The Ladd Community Consolidated School District Board met in regular session Feb. 26, following the amended tax levy hearing. The following business was conducted in regular session:

• Heard the district will receive an additional 6 cents reimbursement for school meals due to meeting the meal pattern requirements.

• Heard 13 children, ages 3 and 4 years old, were screened Feb. 26 for possible eligibility in next year’s Preschool for All Program.

• Heard 15 students are pre-registered for kindergarten for 2014-15. Parents who missed the pre-registration may call the school office at 815-894-2363 to make arrangements to pre-register.

• Heard the district hosted the BVEC Speech Contest on Feb. 26, with Ladd receiving eight first-place ratings and two second-place ratings.

• Announced Zeben Parochetti, Ethan Borelli, Rachel Padgett, Ethan Cattani, Max Manning, Ella Hollinger, Julian Pantoja and Conner Flanagan received first-place rankings at the Ladd Science Fair. Their projects will go on to regional competition in DeKalb in March.

• Heard winners of the bowl-off to determine the school’s IESA bowling team are Erin Biccochi, Hannah Bernardoni, Katie Follmer, Kaelyn Hamalle, Conner Ripka, Alex Winner, Bobby Groleau and R.J. Talbot. Meghan Bernardoni and Arlington Stiennen are the alternates.

• Heard the Family Math Night was very successful with more than 80 students and family members participating.

• Heard the annual reading incentive program this year is Iditaread. Cross-graded teams of students are reading their way from Anchorage to Nome.

• Announced Ashley Erwin and Matthew Dunseth were the recipients of this year’s Illinois Principals Association Award for exhibiting character, citizenship, leadership and scholarship.

• Announced ISAT has been scheduled for March 10-21.

• Heard the Ladd Community Education and Enrichment Foundation recently elected Mark Dempsey as vice-president. They are sponsoring D.A.R.E. for fifth- and sixth-graders, purchasing art samples for the preschool classroom, a document camera for the first grade classroom, pedometers for physical education, and agreed to spend up to $4,000 toward the purchase of an electronic school sign.

• Approved the amended tax levy with the same rates as originally approved, but moving some revenue into fire/life/safety.

• Adopted the calendar for the 2014-15 school year with a teacher institute on Aug. 15, and the first day of student attendance on Aug. 18. The last day of attendance will be May 26 if no emergency days are used.

• Authorized Superintendent Michelle Zeko to apply for a school safety grant and a school maintenance grant.

• Authorized the superintendent and bookkeeper to prepare the budget for the 2014-15 school year.

• Accepted the Dru Heggen’s resignation as Scholastic Bowl coach at the end of this season.

• Hired Brandy Cattani as cheerleading coach for the 2014-15 school year.

• Hired Steve Bosi as seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball coach for the 2014-15 school year.

• Set the next regular board meeting for 7 p.m. March 18 in the John T. Piccatto library.
