Bureau County Sheriff — Republican candidate

Published: Wednesday, March 12, 2014 1:33 p.m. CDT • Updated: Wednesday, March 12, 2014 3:43 p.m. CDT

Age: 69

Residence: Sheffield

Education: I grew up in Sheffield. I graduated Western High School, attended junior college at Sauk Valley, Illinois Valley, Black Hawk East and graduated with an associate’s degree, Boehe Reality School Rock Island and Illinois State Police Academy.

Experience: I have, for my entire adult life, been involved with law enforcement. I was air police in the Air Force, state police for 32 years and Bureau County Sheriff appointed 14 months. I have been mayor for more than 16 years working with city police the entire time.

What are your top three priorities:

1. I will announce my chief deputy immediately which all of the candidates have to accomplish.

2. I will then meet with my top command and put a freeze on spending until all line items can be reviewed. I will then meet the entire staff and start assignments as the department sees. I will work with the county board and be accountable for our office. Priority to check condition of all officers’ cars and equipment, so we have no safety issues.

3. I will keep the entire department involved and informed.

How would you describe yourself to voters: I have been involved in community, school and law enforcement for years. I am very straight forward, honest and sincere. I will work many hours that being days, evening and midnights. I will be at scenes and around. I will meet with groups and or individuals as fit for the cause of good law enforcement. I will be a 24/7 leader. The deputies will see me. I am very conservative but not too relaxed on safety issues. I want good reports and communications at all times by the entire department. We will meet with the command and go over the budget and make cuts where needed, and if more is needed, I will work hard to have the county board understand the reason for more and what needs to be done.

Why should voters cast their vote for you: I would sure expect the voters to understand that if they vote for me, it will be a respectful office with honesty, integrity and pride. It’s not about me, it’s about the county, towns and villages you live in, and we will work to keep the communities safe. I expect the public to know that what I do is for them and the good of all of us living in Bureau County. I will work and work some more to raise the morale of the deputies and make them proud to work for Sheriff Rosenow. Please vote Republican on March 18 for William A. Rosenow for sheriff. Then work hard through the summer and fall to have me be your leader in November 2014.
