Stone Seed Group has selected Savannah Kunkel of Wyanet as a recipient of the 2014 We Know Illinois agricultural scholarship.
Three $1,000 scholarships were awarded in each of the nine Illinois crop reporting districts, totaling $27,000 worth of support in 2014. Eligible applicants included high school seniors in the state of Illinois during the 2013-14 school year.
Applicants were required to complete an essay of no more than 250 words on the topic why agriculture is important to our future. More than 240 seniors applied for the award this year. Eligible entries were judged based on their essay, their dedicated commitment to their agricultural community, and ideas for future involvement and improvements for future careers within the agriculture industry.
“At Stone Seed Group, we take a lot of pride in being able to support our local youth and future leaders in agriculture,” said Dan Zinck, general manager of Stone Seed Group. “These scholarships not only assist them with their education, but also give them the chance to express their knowledge of agriculture and what they hope lies ahead for careers in the industry.”
The 2014 winners of the We Know Illinois Agricultural Scholarship demonstrate passion for the agriculture industry and strive for excellence both in the classroom and in their community.
