Dorene Reichen

UTICA — Dorene M. Reichen, 77, of Utica passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.

Dorene was born Sept. 2, 1936, in LaSalle to Anton "Tony" and Violet (Braida) Maggio. She married Robert Roach in 1954. On July 15, 1964, she was married to, and is survived by, her devoted and loving husband, Daniel E. Reichen of Granville. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming July.

She is also survived by four daughters, Lorene Christopherson of LaSalle, Vicki (Nicholas) Zec of Bradenton, Fla., Mary (Ronald) Unger of Sarasota, Fla., and Catherine Smudzinski of Granville; a son, Daniel A. (Paula) Reichen of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl  (James) Lushina of Hillsboro, Ore.; a brother-in-law, Dennis Foley of Peru; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Judy Foley; a brother, John J. Maggio; and her mother-in-law, Katherine E. Reichen.

After graduating from LaSalle-Peru High School she attended Springfield Beauty Acadamy in Springfield, Mo. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1985 and then was employed by K-Mart for 10 years, J.C. Penney’s and Vlastnik’s Menswear in Peru.

Dorene was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Utica and an active volunteer for the March of Dimes. She was devoted to her family, as her life revolved around her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching her family flourish.

A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle with a prayer service at 4 p.m. and additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at St. Mary’s Church in Utica.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at St. Mary’s Church in Utica. Monsignor James J. Swaner will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Utica.

Memorial donations may be directed to the March of Dimes at 425 First St., LaSalle, IL 61301.
