Gladys Riggs

SHEFFIELD — Gladys N."Susie" Riggs, 75, of Sheffield passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at home.

She was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Sheffield to Harry and Julia (Olsen) Barton. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1956. She was engaged to Kenneth L. Riggs in 1956. They married on Jan. 20, 1957 in Sheffield.

She formerly worked as a bus driver for Bureau Valley Schools. She was a volunteer at "Too Good to Be Threw" in Sheffield. She enjoyed spending time with her family, growing and arranging flowers, knitting, sewing and loved angels. She also was born to shop and travel. She was a lifetime member of the Sheffield Methodist Church and a board member.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years and five wonderful children who never gave her any cause for concern, sons Kevin (Maria) Riggs of Rock Falls, David (Jane) Riggs of Sheffield, Kerry (Ivy) Riggs of Boca Raton, Fla., and Randall (Sandi) Riggs of Lake Worth, Fla., and daughter, Lori (Tom) Stone of Sheffield. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jessie Riggs of Rock Falls, Amber Riggs of Peoria, Heather Riggs of Chicago, Kalyn and Maddi Riggs of Boca Raton, Fla., Angie (Chad) Fisher of Sheffield, Allison (Brandon) Behrens of Sheffield and Natalie (Miguel) Munoz of Princeton; four great-grandchildren, Carson and Kenzi Fisher of Sheffield, and Beckham and Emory Behrens of Sheffield; two brothers, Harley Barton of Sheffield and Harry (Beverly) Barton of Sheffield; one sister, Lois Smith of Neponset; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Raymond Barton; an infant sister, Shirley Barton; and a brother, Kenneth Barton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Todd Krost officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to cancer research, Sheffield Rescue Squad or the donor's choice.

Her husband has a big hole in his heart by her passing which will always be felt. Sweetheart, I love you and will always miss you - Kenny.
