Kevin Mason

PERU — Kevin Mason, 63, of Peru passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 10, 1950, in Spring Valley to Donald “Mickey” and Mary Rita (Smith) Mason. He married Jane Tintorri on July 13, 1974, in St. Joseph’s Church in Peru.

Kevin graduated from St. Bede Academy and Western Illinois University with a degree in accounting. He became a certified public accountant in 1976 and was the owner of Mason Accounting Group in Peru. He was currently a member of the Peru Federal Savings Bank Board.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Peru, where he served in various roles including commentator, Parish Council Board president and school board member. He was an active member in the Peru Rotary, previously serving as president. Kevin also served on the board of the Peru Library, Horizon House and Peru Girls Softball. He was a member of the Ladd Moose.

Kevin was a kind, generous man who enjoyed serving others. He was selflessly committed to his family and community. In his free time, Kevin enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, as well as coaching and watching sports. He especially loved to follow his favorite Chicago sports teams, the Bears and White Sox.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; three daughters, Andrea (Ryan) Whitlatch of Grayslake, Melissa Mason of Chicago and Abby Mason of Shorewood; one son, Michael Mason of Iowa City, Iowa; one granddaughter, Emma Whitlatch; his mother, Mary Rita Mason of Bradford; three sisters, Sharon Henning of Troy, Ohio, Ellin (Michael) Lotspeich of Bradford and Rita (Jacques) Brouillette of Mundelein; and two brothers, Charles Mason of Rockton and Robert Mason of Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his father and one daughter, Alicia in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at St. Joseph’s Church, Peru, with the Rev. Harold Datzman, O.S.B., pastor, and the Rev. Ronald Margherio, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Spring Valley.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru with a liturgical prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, in the church.

Pallbearers will be Mike Rooney, Bill Schulte, Dan Zorn, Bob Grivetti, Barry Breuning, Frank Swingle, Tom Blair and Mark Fernandez.

Memorial donations may be directed to St. Bede Academy, IVCH Hospice or the donor’s choice.
