Sangston’s hit lifts Hall past St. Bede

Sophomore catcher Adam Sangston hit a game-ending single in the bottom of the eighth to send everyone in red and white home happy with an 8-7 win over rival St. Bede Monday at Kirby Park’s Foley Field.

St. Bede, which led 3-0 after 3 1/2 innings, rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, tying the game at 6 on a two-run double by Jon Dose off Red Devil reliever Taggart Venegas.

Hall improved to 4-0 and 1-0 with the Three Rivers South Conference opening victory. Venegas earned the win in relief of starter A.J. Gaeta, who pitched into the seventh inning.

Venegas also came up big offensively, cracking out three hits with two RBIs against his former school. Sangston and Miguel Villareal (2 RBIs) each added two hits.

Jack Brady led the St. Bede offense with three hits with losing pitcher Matt Szczpeniak, Nick Plankenhorn and Michael Bellino adding two each.

The Bruins fell to 1-5, 0-2 with the loss.
