WASHINGTON, Ill. — Gary Mulally, 76, of Washington, Ill., died at 9:18 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at his home.
Born on June 27, 1937, in Peoria to Marvin and Matilda “Tillie” Patroff Mulally, he married his high school sweetheart, Lea Tremper, on July 1, 1960, in Princeton. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Terry of Leavenworth, Kan., Tod of Marietta, Ga., and Troy of Washington, Ill.; one daughter, Trisha (Darrell) Johnson of Washington, Ill.; one sister, Sue (Ron) Messmore of Dunlap; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Cody, Erin, Brady, Madison, Mydejia, Matthew and Connor; one great-grandson, Carter; and one “soon to be” great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Tom Mulally.
Gary graduated from Princeton High School in 1955, where he played on the state champion basketball team, qualified for state in track and also played football. He then served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy SEAL. He loved being a truck driver for ABF Trucking in Peoria, where he worked for 30 years and received the million mile safe driving award as a city driver. Gary was a member of Teamsters Local 627 and also served for more than 20 years as a member of the chain gang for all home football games at Washington Community High School.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, April 21, at the Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, Ill., with Chaplain Steve Drennan officiating. A memorial visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military rites will be rendered by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team and the U.S. Navy funeral honors team.
