SHEFFIELD — Dorothy B. Martin, 95, formerly of Sheffield, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Walnut Manor in Walnut.
Dorothy was born June 29, 1918, in Neponset, the daughter of James and Florence (Stone) Harrison. She married Arthur C. Martin May 27, 1939, in Burlington, Iowa. He died Oct. 20, 2011.
She was a 1936 graduate of Neponset High School. She graduated in 1939 as a registered nurse from Public Hospital School of Nursing in Kewanee. She worked as private duty nurse for several years and was then employed as office nurse for Dr. C.M. Berfield from 1956 to 1978 when she retired.
She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America since 1935. She was also an American Red Cross volunteer. She was a former member of the Friends of the Library and the Eastern Star in Sheffield. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, bridge and dancing.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy Zager of Sterling; one grandson, Dennis (Ellen) DeRycke of Annawan; and one sister, Mary Leitner of Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Martin; and an infant sister.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Sheffield Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
