DIXON — The Galena Trail and Coach Road Society will hold its annual conference on May 3 at the Northwest Territory Historic Center, 205 W. Fifth St., Dixon. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
Michael D. Wiant, the Illinois State Museum at Dickson Mounds director, will give a presentation title “Nature, Native Americans and American Settlers: The land and life of early 19th century Illinois.” He will discuss the ways of life of these two cultures and consider their impact on the areas around them.
During the afternoon session, there will be a tour of the John Deere Historic Site at Grand Detour. The John Deere Historic Site features the original John Deere blacksmith shop, the Deere home and a working blacksmiths shop.
