Gross steps down at LaMoille

LAMOILLE — Dick Gross would have liked to continue coaching girls basketball at LaMoille High School. But for the next two years, he wants to watch his son play basketball.

Gross has stepped down after two seasons as head coach of the LaMoille/Ohio girls basketball team and nine years in the program. He said he has informed school officials of his decision and would follow up with a letter of resignation.

“It was a hard decision for me. One of the hardest I’ve ever made,” Gross said. “I’m gonna miss it. I love the kids. Hopefully, the girls don’t feel like I’m quitting on them. But with my work and Josh in sports, this is what is best.

“It’s been a lot of fun. Maybe in a couple of years I can get back in to it somewhere.”

Gross’ son, Josh, will be a junior member of the LaMoille/Ohio basketball team next year, having played varsity as a sophomore.

The Lady Lions reached the 1A regional championship this year, posting a 10-15 record.

There are now three area girls basketball vacancies, including Hall and Mendota.
