PRINCETON — Learning Stage, the education committee of Princeton Theatre Group, will host a spelling bee for adults, aged 21 and older, at 7 p.m. May 16 at the Grace Performing Arts Center, 316 S. Main St., Princeton.
This special event is designed to put local audiences in the mood for the upcoming performances of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” the first show of the Festival 56 summer season.
Titled “Not the Putnam County Spelling Bee,” the evening will incorporate all the elements of a serious “bee” into a light-hearted and fun-filled affair.
“Teams of local contenders, whose efforts may or may not benefit from the availability of a cash bar,” said Marina Carrott, chair of Learning Stage, “will compete for prized tickets and an opportunity to appear on-stage during a performance of the actual show.” A tip for those participating: theater-themed vocabulary will be used.
Learning Stage is seeking teams of three to four members to enter the contest. Spelling ability is optional. The only requirements to join in the festivities are a good attitude and payment of a $10 per person entrance fee. Teams are encouraged to select a name, wear costumes and bring props if they see fit.
Teams may register in advance by email at email@example.com or at the door, which opens at 6:30 p.m. Family, friends and fans are invited to attend free of charge and cheer on the participants. This special event is a benefit for Festival 56, Illinois’ largest summer theatre festival.
