Athletes qualify for IESA 1A State

Bureau Valley South qualified athletes for the IESA 1A State Track and Field competition. Area athletes from around Bureau County have qualified for the IESA 1A State Track and Field competition in East Peoria this weekend. Those reported to the BCR include:

Ohio: Maddi Deery in the shot put and discuss and Lexi Loftus in hurdles and long jump.  In addition to competing on the track and field, Loftus has also been chosen to sing the National Anthem prior to State competition Saturday morning in East Peoria.

Spring Valley JFK: The Wildcats qualified their seventh-grade 4x100 and 4x400 relays with Christian Stephaniak, Anthony Buchanan, James Mautino, and Steven Brust. Stephaniak also qualified in the 100 and 200 and Buchanan made it in the 200.

For the JFK girls, Kaleigh Shilkuski made it in the seventh-grade discus and Kaelyn Condon qualified in the eighth-grade 100 and 200. The JFK seventh-grade 4x100 relay of Kiara Hernandez, Stefanie Villalobos, Rose Puentes, Emily Wozniak as well as the eighth-grade 4x200 of Condon, Lauren Bulak, Kora Cruz and Marilu Ceballos also qualified.

BV South: The Bureau Valley South eighth-grade girls took first place at the Wethersfield Sectional. State qualifiers are Nicole Wirth (hurdles, 4x100, 4x400), Hailey Weidner (1600, 800, 4x100, 4x400), Niquel Eilts (1600), Kelly O’Donohue (4x200), Cassidy Olds (4x200), Alex Geary (high jump, 4x200), Paige Foster (4x200, 4x400), Caitlyn Starr (alternate 4x200), Katelyn Splitt (long jump, 4x100) and Addison Moreland (200, long jump, 4x100, 4x400).

The BVS boys placed second at sectional in the eighth grade. State qualifiers are Morgan Strader (1600, 800, 4x400), Jacob Wirth (4x200), Alex Groenewold (4x200, 4x400), Spencer Marquez (4x200, 4x400) and Corbin Endress (4x200, 4x400).

Seventh-grader qualifiers for South are Saige Barnett (hurdles, shot, 4x200, 4x800), Marissa Endress (4x200, 4x400), Jenna Nordstrom (4x200) and Hannah Williams (alternate 4x200, 4x400). The seventh-grade boys advanced both their 4x200 and 4x400 relays with Nate Paup, Kale Barnett, Tyler Gustafson and Adam Koch with Dalton Dean and Trevor Griffin serving as alternates. Paup also qualified in the high jump and 400.
