Harvey Blumhorst

MALDEN — Harvey J. Blumhorst, 73, of Malden passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in Malden.

He was born Sept. 29, 1940, in Tiskilwa to Harvey H. and Virginia "Pat" (Zurliene) Blumhorst. He was raised in Malden. He met his wife, Ethel Danielson, while attending Malden High School, where they were homecoming king and queen before graduating in 1958. They were married in St. Louis Catholic Church on July 1, 1961, nearly 53 years "traveling life's" road together."

A lifelong truck driver, Harvey drove for several companies over the years. His last trip was for Sondergroth Trucking in December of 2013. Harvey found joy in many things like coaching Pony League baseball and going to 2 o'clock coffee at the Coffee Cup. But, he was most fond of watching his grandkids grow up and going to their sporting events and any activity involving his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his quiet generosity.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Ethel, and their four children, Brian (Patti) of Mendota, Kyle (Alisa) of Rochester, Troy (Krista) of Dover, Del., and Tonya (John) Yetter of New Douglas. Also surviving are one brother, Paul (Betty) Blumhorst, Yuma, Ariz.; and 17 grandchildren, Chance, Brianne, Trae, Nicole, Ross, Roger, Breanna, William, Christopher, Shane, Theo, Shamon, Isaac, Kaycee, Mayanna, Brandon and Robert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles; two brothers-in-law; and a niece and a nephew.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton with Father Jeffrey Stirniman officiating. Burial will follow in the Malden Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton.

Memorials may be directed to either St. Louis Catholic Church or to Special Olympics.
