St. Bede 6, Bureau Valley 0: Sophomore pitcher Jarret Olson threw a three-hit shutout to pitch St. Bede to victory over Bureau Valley at the Academy diamond Monday in the play-in game of the Bureau Valley 2A Baseball Regional. The sophomore southpaw struck out 14 batters and walked nine.

Olson helped his own cause with an RBI double in the first. Michael Bellino drove in another run to make it 2-0.

Bureau Valley’s Kyle Rokey went the distance, scattering eight hits.

The Bruins (10-14) advanced to play top-seed Hall in Wednesday’s semifinals.

BV bowed out at 3-19. The game marked the end of John Matlick's run as the Storm coach. He has resigned from his post, a move which was announced at Monday's school board meeting.
