Giving back to the community

Bureau Valley District staff member Rick Wilkin works the grill Saturday at the Wyanet Locker. Every Saturday, the Wyanet Locker allows different non-profit community groups to host a barbecue luncheon. The standard menu includes ribeyes, pork chops, pork burgers, brats and hot dogs. Most times, the group hosting the cookout also sells chips, cold drinks and bake sale items. “They can sell anything they want,” said Wyanet Locker owner Scott Sabin. “One hundred percent of the proceeds go to (the organization). I give them the meat at cost; they provide the workers; and we provide them the space to do it. We’ve been doing cookouts here for at least the last 15 years.” Cookouts run every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sabin said the weekly cookout is a nice way for his business to give back to the community.
