Rosella Huffaker

LADD — Rosella P. Huffaker, 94, of Ladd passed away at 5:55 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.

Mrs. Huffaker was born on June 15, 1919, on the family farm in Spring Valley to Charles and Barbara (Schlund) Walch. She married Robert L. Huffaker on Nov. 18, 1945, at St. John’s Lutheran Church on the Hill. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2005.

She is survived by her children, Norman (Debbie) Huffaker of Long Beach, Calif.; Kay (Doug) Chesney of Crystal Lake; Bruce (Sandy) Huffaker of rural Spring Valley and Lugene (George) Olp of Fishers, Ind.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings: Ida Husser, Lila Linker, Ruth May, Martha Walch and LeRoy Walch.

She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church on the Hill. Mrs. Huffaker lived her entire life on her family farm until moving to Ladd after her retirement. She was employed by Sampsels, Westclox and finally Hobbs.

Her passion was quilting and she made over 1,000 quilts which were distributed through her church’s ministry “Quilts for the homeless”. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was loved by all.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church on the Hill in Hollowayville with the Rev. Kim Lee-Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church. The Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church on the Hill.
