Ladd American Legion Auxiliary holds year-end meeting

LADD — The Ladd American Legion Auxiliary held its closing dinner on May 27. There were 16 members in attendance.

Kathy Padgett and Lee Ann Joyce, poppy poster contest chairmen, displayed the winning posters from the fifth-grade class at Ladd Grade School. Gia Pozzi won first, Hunter DeSpain was second and Kami Walk was third. They will be awarded a certificate and monetary prize on awards day at the school.

Marilyn Pavinato reported coupons collected for Wounded Warriors is now at $70,000.

The third annual fundraiser at Rips will be held on Sept. 7. A raffle for an American (nylon) flag will be ongoing until then.

The 16th District President Marsha Archibald congratulated the auxiliary for achieving 100 percent membership with a certificate.

Officers for the 2014-15 year will be: Geri Devert, president; Pavinato, vice president; Mary Konieczny, treasurer; Billie Jean Taylor, secretary; Virginia McNally, historian; Sandy Dunseth, chaplain; and Mae Piacenti, sergeant-at-arms. Taylor and all members present renewed their pledge to the American Legion Auxiliary and to serve the soldiers, veterans and community.

The next meeting will be on Aug. 5. To join the auxiliary, call Pavinato at 815-894-2047 or Devert at 815-894-2269.
