Miranda to hoop for Carthage
Carthage College pretty much had Lexie Miranda at hello.
The recent St. Bede Academy graduate signed Tuesday to play basketball for Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., along the shores of Lake Michigan.
“Aside from the stunning views of Lake Michigan, Carthage offers everything I am looking for. The solid science program along with the outstanding basketball program are exactly the right fit,” Miranda said.
Lady Bruins coach Tom McGunnigal said he was glad she found a place that she feels comfortable and wants to be at to play basketball.
“I think her college search was right…look for a school you like and feel comfortable at and then look at playing,” he said. “I know she has had that desire to play ever since she came to high school. I’m proud of how she has grown, and I think Carthage is getting a very good leader and teammate for their program. Her stats aren’t flashy by any means but you can’t measure heart, desire and attitude on a stat sheet, and she’s bringing good stuff with her to college.”
She becomes the second member of the senior class from the Academy to continue basketball. Classmate Raley Mauck will play at Illinois Valley Community College.
Miranda said she considered playing both basketball and softball in college, but in the end stuck solely with basketball. She also looked at Monmouth College, Knox College and University Wisconsion-Platteville.
While she does not have a specific career chose yet, Miranda plans to major in environmental science with a minor in biology.
