Charles Blaine

AMBOY — Charles E. Blaine, 96, of Amboy died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Green Acres Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Amboy.

He was born in East Grove Township, Lee County, on Oct. 29, 1917, the son of Frank and Matilda (Hamann) Blaine. He had farmed in the Maytown area for many years prior to his retirement in 1987.

Charles was an avid hunter and he enjoyed hiking and the outdoors. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy. He married Ann Ogan in Maytown on April 6, 1940.

Survivors include his wife of Amboy; five children, Janet Theriault of Franklin, Wis., Jim Blaine of Amboy, Barb Protiva of Flagstaff, Ariz., Cathy (Bruce) Schultz of Ohio and Jeff Blaine of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Blaine; three brothers, Clarence, Edwin and Lester Blaine; one sister, Pearl Piper; one half brother, Lawrence Blaine; and two half sisters, Hazel Blaine and Leah Krieger.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 14, beginning with a 10 a.m. prayer service in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home, Amboy, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy, with the Rev. Dennis Morrissy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Ohio.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Green Acres Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Amboy.
