The 2013 Bureau County Fair Queens Makenna Maupin of Wyanet (front), Kendra Cain of Princeton (back row, from left) and Ashley Simmons of Geneseo will relinquish their titles at this year’s Bureau County Fair. Applications will be accepted until June 28. The pageant will take place on Aug. 3.

More local contestants are needed if the 2014 Miss Bureau County Fair Queen pageant is to remain a Bureau County-only pageant.

On Thursday, Bureau County Fair Board pageant committee co-coordinator Tara Maupin said there are currently four submitted applications for the 2014 Miss Bureau County pageant, though there are other applications which have been taken out, but not yet submitted. There has to be a minimum of 10 county contestants or else the pageant will be opened to girls from neighboring counties, she said.

The deadline to get applications submitted is June 28, Maupin said.

Applications are available through several means, including the Bureau County Fair website at www.bureaucountyfair.com, the 2014 Bureau County Fair Facebook Page or by contacting pageant director Tracy Diehl at bureaucofairqueenpageant@gmail.com.

Participating in the Miss Bureau County Fair Queen pageant can be a great experience and a great confidence builder, Maupin said. There are various prizes awarded during the pageant, plus the winner of the 2014 Miss Bureau County Fair Queen pageant receives a $1,000 scholarship from the Bureau County Fair Board, she said.

The 2014 Miss Bureau County Fair Queen pageant is set for Aug. 3 but is just the beginning of a fun-filled year, with the new queen participating in various community parades and events throughout the year, Maupin said.

To be eligible for the Miss Bureau County Fair Queen pageant, a contestant must be no younger than 16 on Aug. 3 and no older than 21 in January 2015.

Additional contestants could also be used in the younger Little Miss and Junior Miss pageants, Maupin said. There are currently five contestants in each of those competitions, she said.

To participate in the Little Miss pageant, a girl must be no younger than 6 on Aug. 3 and no older than 8 on Aug. 3. The Junior Miss pageant is for girls who are no younger than 12 on Aug. 3 and no older than 14 on Aug. 3.

The Little Miss pageant will begin the Aug. 3 pageant event at 3 p.m., followed by the Junior Miss pageant and then the Miss Bureau County Fair Queen pageant.

For additional information on any of the pageants, contact Tracy Diehl, pageant director, at 309-507-2596 or by email to bureaucofairqueenpageant@gmail.com.
