Still standing tall

The U.S. flag has stood the test of time, the emblem of courage and patriotism in times of war and in times of peace, in times of prosperity and times of recessions. Today, Saturday, marks the national observance of Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, as determined by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The U.S. flag can be seen throughout Bureau County, flying from governmental buildings and private residences, in parks and cemeteries, and lining the main streets of Bureau County communities. The red and white and starry blue of the U.S. flag represents freedom’s shield and hope, as penned by American composer John Philip Sousa.
