Princeton Logan Junior High School and Malden Grade School have reached cooperative agreement to field a new IESA softball team at the end of this summer.

The team will be open to girls entering Grades 7-8, who attend Logan or Malden. The regular season will run July 28 through Sept. 9, followed by postseason play. The girls will play a 12-16 game schedule against other area schools.

Kevin Bauer, who is organizing the Logan/Malden team with PHS varsity coach Bob James, said the team is being formed to teach girls the proper fundamentals of fastpitch softball so they can be prepared to play at the high school level, while teaching good sportsmanship and team work.

Bauer said the one-year pilot program will be funded by individuals and corporate sponsors at no cost to the school districts.

While softball season will overlap the start of the girls basketball season at Logan, Bauer said they will work around all conflicts that may arise.

To sign up for the team or for additional information, contact Bauer at 815-341-5511.
