Kurt Garvin

PRINCETON — Kurt Michael Garvin, 28, of Princeton passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, just outside of Sterling.

He was born May 24, 1986, in Princeton to John E. Garvin and Susan M. (Pizzuto) Garvin. Kurt graduated from Princeton High School in 2004. He received his associates degree from Illinois Valley Community College in 2011 and was preparing for his Paramedic boards later this year. Kurt was a Firefighter/EMT serving as a member of the Princeton Fire Department for eight years.

Kurt was a board member of the Princeton Jaycees and during that time he was the organizer of the Homestead beer garden. He was the Jaycee Rookie of the Year in 2010 and was Princeton Jaycee of the Year in 2011. He belonged to the Princeton Futbal Club and was a Princeton High School volunteer assistant girls' soccer coach. Kurt was an avid runner and work-out enthusiast and was a Z-Tour volunteer.

Kurt is survived by his parents, John and Susan (Pizzuto) Garvin of Princeton; his brother, John Garvin of Peoria; his grandmother, Doris Garvin; one aunt and one uncle; numerous cousins; and his dog, Teddy.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carmen and Alice Pizzuto, and his paternal grandfathers, Thomas Garvin and Edwin Parke.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Princeton, with Pastor Scott Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton. There will be a Firemen's Honor Walk-through at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Princeton Fire Department.
