Genealogical Society meeting

KEWANEE — The Henry County Genealogical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Kewanee Public Library in the second floor meeting room. Larry Lock, president of the Kewanee Historical Society, will present a PowerPoint presentation on Kewanee 100 years ago.


WYANET — The Wyanet Boy Scouts will host a cookout from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wyanet Locker. They will serve ribeyes, butterfly chops, pork burgers, brats, hot dogs, chips and pop.

Upcoming blood drives

SHEFFIELD/SPRING VALLEY — American Red Cross blood drives will be held in both Sheffield and Spring Valley. The event in Sheffield will be from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday at the St. Patrick Church Hall, 231 W. Atkinson St. The event in Spring Valley will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Margaret’s Hospital, 600 E. First St. To donate, call 800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org.

Tea Party meeting

PRINCETON — We the People Tea Part will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 24 in the Bureau County Republican conference room. Krik Allen and John Kraft will speak about the process they use to identify problems with local government bodies, illegal use of funds, steps to take to fix it, expose the corrupt and, if necessary, the removal from office.

Turkey Shoot

PRINCETON — The Joe Myer Park turkey shoot fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 2. Participants should bring their shotgun and/or .22-caliber rifle. Shells will be provided. Food, pop, water and raffles will be available. There will be turkey, ham, money and splatter boards. Joe Myer Park is located at 16700 2625 East St., Princeton, 6 miles east of Princeton on Route 6, then north 2 miles. Rain date is Aug. 9.
