District 20 Tournaments heating up

The District 20 Little League Baseball and Softball tournaments will be heating up over the 4th of July Weekend. Here’s a quick rundown of the sites and teams in order of start-up dates:

Little League Baseball: Spring Valley Little League will host the 11-12 year old American sub-district beginning Saturday. There are just four teams in the field with Mendota facing Peru at 1 p.m. and Ottawa vs. Spring Valley at 3 p.m.

There will two games at the same times again Wednesday with the double-elimination event continuing through Wednesday. Oglesby plays host to the coinciding National Sub-district with the winners to square off at Ottawa.

Junior League Baseball: Five teams will vie for the district title in the 13-14 age division at M & H Field in LaSalle. First games on tap match Spring Valley vs. Peru at 6 p.m. followed by Mendota vs. LaSalle. Oglesby drew a bye in the tournament which runs through July 12 or July 13.

Minor League Softball: Mendota plays host to the 9-10 age girls division at Strouss Park beginning Wednesday. Opening night games pit Spring Valley vs. Oglesby at 6 p.m. and Mendota vs. Bi-County at 7:30 p.m. The tournament runs through July 14 or July 15.

Junior League Softball: The 13-14 girls division will run July 10-14 at Mark Jody Field in Peru. In the openers, LaSalle faces Oglesby at 6 p.m. and Mendota meets Spring Valley at 7:30 p.m.

Minor League Baseball: The 9-10 boys will vie for sub-district honors in the National Division in Streator beginning July 14. Ottawa will face Spring Valley at 6 p.m. followed by Bi-County vs. Utica at 7:30 p.m. Streator drew a bey in the tournament which runs through July 18 or July 19.

Senior League Baseball: The 15-16 boys will be the last to take the district field, assembling at Mendota’s Faber Field July 22-28. Spring Valley drew a bye, drawing the July 22 winner between LaSalle and Ottawa American at 6 p.m. on July 23. The Other teams in the field are Peru and Mendota, which meet at 8 p.m. July 22.
