Area students receive honors, awards from Monmouth College

MONMOUTH — Near the end of the spring semester, Monmouth College held its annual honors convocation. The event was held in conjunction with Scholars day activities on campus. The following local students received honors and awards:

• Shawna Mitchell of DePue was inducted into Eta Sigma Phi, the honorary society for classical studies. She is a junior biopsychology major.

• Mercedes N. Sandoval of DePue received the Monmouth College Fine Arts Scholarship. She is a junior psychology major.

• Ashley M. Schrader of LaMoille received the John and Ruth Church Scholarship. She is a sophomore biology major.

• Calaura K. Hockings of Manlius received the Monmouth College Fine Arts Scholarship. She is a sophomore music major.

• Alexis J. Sierens of Mineral received the Christine Swanson FitzGerald Class of ‘71 Scholarship. She is a sophomore accounting and business administration major.

• Ryan M. Arndt of Princeton received the Reader’s Digest Foundation Scholarship. He is a senior history and business administration major.

• Heather R. Malone of Princeton received the Edward C. and Catherine D. Hodge Memorial Scholarship and the William K. McConnell Scholarship. She is a junior chemistry major.

• Nathan B. Mesick of Princeton received the Michael J. McGrath ‘71 Scholarship. He is a junior biochemistry major.

• Carina M. Moschello of Princeton received the Donn & Beverlee Johnson Scholarship and the Monmouth College Fine Arts Scholarship. She is a senior history and classics major.

• Emily A. Olson of Princeton received the Florence & Ben Bondurant Annual Memorial Scholarship, the Nottleman Scholarship and the Monmouth College Fine Arts Scholarship. She is a junior sociology & anthropology major.

• Bailey J. Roberts of Sheffield received the Douglas R. Spitz Scholarship, the Helen McClure Wieland Scholarship in the Arts, the Monmouth College Fine Arts Scholarship and the Art Department Award. She is a junior art major.

• Ashley E. Atwell of Walnut received the Davenport Prize in History. She was inducted into Sigma Omicron Mu, an upperclass fraternity for students who maintain a 3.615 GPA or above, with a minimum of 63 hours with a grade of A and no grade below C-. She is a senior elementary education major.

• Catherine L. Johnson of Wyanet received the Monmouth College Fine Arts Scholarship. She is a freshman communication major.
