MENDOTA — Mendota’s Sweet Corn Festival will go to the kids on Aug. 8 for Kids’ Day.
Join the fun provided by Illinois Valley Rides and Games. The Sweet Corn Festival’s carnival will have a variety of rides for all ages. It is kids day where kids young and old can ride as much and as many rides as they want from noon to 4 p.m. with the purchase of a $20 armband.
There will be more than 23 rides. In addition to the carnival rides, Cory Leonard, magician and speaker, will perform. Merritt Funeral Home is bringing the illusionist to this year’s festival. He will be strolling and performing his comedy magic and close-up illusions from noon to 2 p.m.
Leonard brings more than 29 years of experience providing quality entertainment and creating memories. He began doing his shows while in the Navy. While out at sea with a crew of more than 7,000 aboard the U.S.S. America CV66, he honed his craft, entertaining with his comical, close-up magic boosting morale in the process. In the early 1990s he returned to central Illinois and has been entertaining kids and adults.
Billy the Balloon Guy of Rockford will be at the festival courtesy of Schimmer Inc. He will be twisting creations to give to onlookers at the corner of Illinois Avenue and Jefferson Street from 1 to 5 p.m. He can create small animals, flower and the like or elaborate balloon bouquets, bags of golf clubs and even bi-planes.
