PERU — Leonard Loid Martin, 90, of 2906 Independence Drive, Peru, formerly of rural Arlington, passed peacefully surrounded by his family at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Heritage Health Care in Peru.
He was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Glen Ellyn to Ray and Hilma (Ecklund) Martin. He married the former Norma Rett on April 10, 1943, at St. John's Lutheran Church on the Hill. She survives in Peru.
He was a farmer all of his life and had also worked at Bassick’s.
Leonard had served for several terms on the LaMoille School Board and was a member of the Bureau County Grain Association, St. John's Lutheran Church on the Hill and Spring Creek Golf Club.
He is also survived by two daughters, Lynn (Jim) Sondgeroth of Peru and Lora (Glenn) Pinter of Pontiac; eight grandchildren, Tracy (Dr. Robert) Mitchell, Dr. Trisha (Dr. Timothy) McCormick, Eric (Jennifer) Cain, Marc (Kelly) Cain, Kyle (Kari) Cain, Aaron (Yvette) Pinter, Nate (Chrissy) Pinter and Niwana Pinter; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a son-in-law, Keith Cain of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Cain; a granddaughter, Tina Sondgeroth; and two sisters, Dolores Williams and Norma Carlson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the Hurst Funeral Home, LaSalle, with the Rev Kim Lee-Brown, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church on the Hill, officiating. Burial will be in the Peru City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the funeral home.
