Betty Fairbanks

WALNUT — Betty L. Fairbanks, 81, formerly of Wyanet and Bureau Township, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Walnut Manor Nursing Home in Walnut.

Betty was born April 24, 1933, in Kewanee, the daughter of William E. and Florence (Gibson) Hoye. She was united in marriage to Harry R. Fairbanks on May 27, 1961, in Buda. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2005.

She retired from Harper-Wyman after more than 30 years. She had most recently attended Wyanet and Walnut United Methodist Church and was a member of the Wyanet VFW Auxilliary. Betty enjoyed traveling, camping, horseback riding and dancing to the Rhythm King Band.

She is survived by one daughter, Paula (Lou) Cosenza of Manteno; three sons, Jerry (Jeannette) Fairbanks of Walnut, Steven (Connie) Fairbanks of Wyanet and Richard (Jacque) Fairbanks of Grand Ridge; one stepdaughter, Christina Pagel of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillie Bonacquisti of Rockford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Ellen.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, at the United Methodist Church in Walnut with the Rev. Mark Harkness officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, July 21 at the church.

A memorial has been established to the Walnut United Methodist Church Roof Fund.
