A recent visit to Bureau County’s Backyard Train, hosted by Laurence and Janet Johnson of Lake Arispie, delighted youngsters, oldsters and everyone in between. After Laurence provided some historical background on the 1/8-scale rail cars and the engineering involved in laying the 2,000 feet of track, eight children and a few adventuresome adults enjoyed several rides. Along the route, they spotted delightful surprises including tree faces, a farmstead, the citizens of Gnomeville and a red covered bridge. The program was organized for community participation by the Tiskilwa Historical Society.
