BVHS Renaissance travels to conference

MANLIUS — Bureau Valley High School Renaissance coordinator Tori Boyle and students Kaitlyn Ptasnik and Chase Gripp attended the Jostens Renaissance National Conference in Orlando, Fla., July 10-14.

The conference had administration, educators and students from 225 schools from all over the United States and Canada.

Each person in attendance went to 10 breakout sessions with topics ranging from ideas from other Renaissance programs, technology, leadership and more.

During the opening session, guest speaker J.R. Martinez spoke about his childhood, service in the military, being injured in Iraq, recovering from his injury and becoming an actor, speaker and champion on Dancing with the Stars.

The group attend a pep rally with recognitions and games on Friday night. They also were able to enjoy time at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

In June, BVHS Renaissance submitted a video for the behavior and attendance category which featured the field trips they sponsored for students who were nominated by the staff and faculty. It was showcased during lunch on Saturday as the winning video. At an awards dinner on Saturday night, the video with an Eagle’s Choice Award.

During the closing session, guest speaker Eric Thomas talked about his childhood struggles to currently working on earning his PhD.

The delegation was sponsored by Michlig Grain, Crop Production Services, the Gripp family and Michilig Energy.
