Church league begins tournament

PRINCETON — Action has begun in the 2014 Princeton Church League Fastpitch Tournament held at Westside Park.

Monday’s games saw no. 5 seed United Methodist Church upset no. 4 seed Princeton Bible Church 16-4 while no. 3 seed Bureau Township beat no. 6 seed St. Louis 16-5.

Tuesday’s games saw Princeton Bible Church beat St. Louis 12-10 in a 12-inning marathon while no. 3 seed Bunker Hill slipped past no. 7 seed Peoples Church 13-9 in the nightcap.

Friday’s scheduled games in the winners’ bracket were United Methodist Church squaring off against no. 1 seed St. Matthew’s and no. 2 Bureau Township playing no. 3 Bunker Hill.

The loser of the UMC-St. Matthew’s game will play Peoples Church at 6 p.m. Saturday while the loser of the Bureau Township-Bunker Hill contest will play Princeton Bible Church at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Action continues in the double-elimination tournament next week with games set for Tuesday night, Thursday night and the championship game(s) on Aug. 9.
