Grand opening

SPRING VALLEY — Spring Valley Elementary is proud to announce the grand opening of Kennedy School on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Everyone, especially community members, parents, students, and former and current staff, are welcome to attend the celebration. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the front doors near the new entrance on Strong Avenue, followed by a few brief introductions in the auditorium. Tours will take place throughout the night.

Walnut Rotary Club meeting

WALNUT — Deb Castillo, of the Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging, will speak at the Rotary Club of Walnut’s Wednesday meeting at noon at the Walnut Cafe. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Tea Party meeting

MANLIUS — Bureau Valley Buddy Bags will meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manlius.


WYANET — TRI W 4-H will host a cookout and bake sale from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wyanet Locker. They will be serving ribeyes, butterfly chops, pork burgers, brats, hot dogs, chips an soda.


PRINCETON — Perry Memorial Hospital retirees and former employees will gather for a breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 4 at Lincoln Plaza Restaurant.

Blood drive

PRINCETON — The First United Methodist Church in Princeton will hold an American Red Cross blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4 in Fellowship Hall of the church, 316 S. Church St. For an appointment, call the Princeton office at 815-879-2231.

Fundraiser planned

PRINCETON — The Committee to Elect Allan Beaber for Bureau County Sheriff will host a fried chicken dinner fundraiser will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Park Tavern, 815 Park Ave. West in Princeton. Tickets are $15 per person, $25 per couple. Dinner includes fried chicken, french fries, coleslaw, and iced tea or lemonade. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
