GAASTRA, Mich. — John V. Allen of Gaastra, Mich., formerly of Sheffield, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, in Marquette, Mich. He was 57.
John was born to John E. and Virginia (Kratz) Allen on May 20, 1957, at Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, Texas. He married Connie Pease in Princeton on March 16, 1979. She survives.
John graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Mechanical/Technical Engineering in 1992 from Illinois Valley Community College. After he graduated he worked for many years in Mendota at ABC, designing and building grain conveyers. He then moved to Gaastra, Mich., in 2004. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and taking rides with his buddy Rufus!
He is survived by a daughter, Brandie (Nick) Johnson of Iron River, Mich.; two sons, Jason (Shana) Allen of Princeton and Jeremy (Blythe Maltas) Allen of Malden; and seven grandchildren, Amya, Aiden and Rylee Johnson of Iron River, Mich., Samantha, Scott and Brent Neahring of Princeton, and Connor Maltas of Malden. His mother and a sister, Susan (Andy) Coble, both of Iron River, Mich., also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, James Allen; and his grandparents, Oris and Susie Allen, John Kratz and Cloie Rieck.
A celebration of John's life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Caspian Fire Hall in Caspian, Mich.
