SPRINGFIELD – State Rep. Frank Mautino received the Illinois Leadership Council for Agriculture Education “Jim Guilinger” Legislative Award at the Illinois State Fair Agriculture Day for his continued support of agriculture education in the state.
“Agriculture is integral to the welfare and economic stability of the state, and requires a continued source of trained and qualified individuals for employment in agriculture,” said Mautino, who is serving his third year as deputy majority leader in the Illinois House of Representatives. “The fact is, agriculture education works. It serves more and more student high school graduation needs in math, science, language arts, social studies and consumer education.”
According to the council, since 1987, ILCAE has annually presented the “Jim Guilinger” Legislative Award to state senators and representatives who have supported agricultural education.
“With agriculture education playing such a key role in preparing students for college and career success, it’s important that we have allies in the Legislature who will stand up and express how important this program really is,” the Council’s Chair Vern McGinnis said. “Representative Mautino has continually supported agriculture education over the years and ensured its funding in the state budget.”
The Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education (ILCAE) formed in 1984 and continues today as a voluntary, grassroots agriculture industry group which is focused on the improvement and expansion of agricultural education.
