TISKILWA — Amy V. Porter, 58, of Tiskilwa passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
Amy was born June 9, 1956, in Austin, Texas, to James and Verie (Fritsche) Armstead. She graduated from high school in Caldwell, Texas, and married Eric L. Porter in 1982. He survives.
She enjoyed her yard and was reported to have a “green thumb” when it came to gardening. Amy was a homemaker and foster parent for many years, opening her heart and home to numerous children in need, permanently adopting two of them. Children in crisis were often brought to her by the authorities in the middle of the night when their parents were unable to care for them.
She is survived by two sons, Samuel Porter of Tiskilwa and Blake Herrick on tour in Kuwait; a daughter, Amber Porter of Charleston, S.C.; a goddaughter, Brianna Olsen of Walnut; two brothers, Andrew (Susan) Armstead of Dallas, Texas, and Mike (Deborah) Armstead of College Station, Texas; one brother-in-law, Leif (Dawn) Porter of Sheffield; a sister-in-law, Krista Porter (Mary Ramos) of Springfield, Mo.; one granddaughter, Anya of Dunlap; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Aaron Porter; and two brothers-in-law, Michael and Norman Porter.
Cremation will be accorded by the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, with a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society or animal rescue of the giver’s choice.
