2014 Hall golf preview

Ott, Hoscheid will lead Hall golfers

SPRING VALLEY — Hall High School has four returning varsity players from last year’s golf team.

Senior Ryan Ott, a two-year varsity player, and sophomore Matt Hoscheid should lead the way for the Red Devils this year, whom coach Tom Bauer said he has “extremely high expectations.”

Bauer also has high hopes for seniors Zach Vanderpool and Aaron Mitchell. Seniors Evan Alig and Avery Detmers and junior Dominic Marenda should compete for the final varsity spots, Bauer said.

Other candidates are senior Mike Martin, sophomores Hayden Nielsen, Hope Goetz, Connor Whitten, Pablo Luleand Cale Pozzi and freshman Patrick Cousar and Coby Breland.

“We should be competitive on the varsity level, but will need to find a fifth and sixth score that will help,” Bauer said.

The Red Devils opened the season Monday at Kewanee. They will travel to Sheffield to face host Bureau Valley Wednesday before playing their home opener at Spring Creek Golf Course on Monday vs. Mendota and Seneca.
